This year, the Auerfarm 4-H Club had 38 club members to prepare projects for the Hartford County 4-H Fair in August. Not only did they bring home prize ribbons, they developed and harvested a sense of independence, gained self-confidence, while learning new hard and soft skills.
Here is a quote from that one Auerfarm 4-H’er had to say in his 4-H story: “While at 4-H, my favorite things are working with the sheep and making apple cider. I was excited that when I visited Auerfarm with my cousin – Rosemary, my sheep came right up to me. Last year, she would have been hesitant. The most important thing I learned in 4-H is how sheep are judged and their body parts.
I like 4-H because helping people and animals improves my mental health. It makes me feel like I have a purpose. When I gave barn tours, I was teaching people and they were learning things that they did not know before.”
