Auerfarm is pleased and honored to be an educational partner with five Bloomfield schools: Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School, Laurel Elementary, Carmen Arace Middle School, Bloomfield High School, and Harris Agriscience & Technology Center.
Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School:
We are thrilled to report that two Auerfarm educators, Miss Lynn and Miss Tatiana, are back interacting in person with all our young friends. The educators have been visiting their classrooms to discuss apple trees through the seasons of the year. Students have enjoyed participating in an interactive play, creating the apple tree with loose objects, and developing apple tree art and writing activities and peeling, while cooking and sampling apple goods.
The next Auerfarm lesson is ‘Harvest’ and our young friends will be coming to the farm to explore our gardens. We cannot wait!
Laurel Elementary School:
Two Auerfarm educators spearheaded a STEM-based after-school curriculum for first grader students enrolled in the academic enrichment program at Laurel Elementary School. The in-person classes started in-person on October 5, 2021 and are delivered in the Laurel Elementary classrooms during 4:10-5:50 pm and 5:00-5:40 pm sessions.
This 8-week program is called ‘Curious Seeds’ as the fall season is a wonderful time to learn about the life cycle of plants. Throughout the program, students discover various seeds and their purpose for humans and animals.
Students have already completed hands-on guided apple investigation and created apple crafts. Students will learn to establish the outdoor classroom rules that exhibit the behavior of researchers, scientists and artists.
Every Tuesday, students have a special guest, Farmer Jacob, from the University of Connecticut to help students learn about, inquire, and observe Auerfarm farm animals; chickens and rabbits.
