Poppy the pig is a 5, soon to be 6, year old pot belly pig who recently joined the Auerfarm family. However, pot belly pigs are more suitable to be a pet than to live on a farm. They are clean, mostly odor free, and smart. These pigs can learn to open the fridge, cupboards, and pantry to try and get to food however, they are meant to eat a specific food designed for mini pigs.
Pot belly pigs are also known as Vietnamese Potbellied Pigs and Miniature Pet Pigs, with their scientific name being Sus scrofa domesticus. They look smaller than other domestic pigs due to their straight tail, somewhat erect ears, a shorter snout, and the famous curved belly that hangs down- giving them their name. An average lifespan for these pigs ranges from 14-21 years.
